“Advice from a Tree”
Ilan Shamir
Dear Friend,
Stand tall and proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The energy and birth of Spring
The growth and contentment of Summer
The wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The rest and quiet renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!
The tree above is from my parents’ backyard (in New Orleans). We visited a couple of weeks ago, a much needed break from Northern Alabama. Of course, I took some time with the trees.
The poem is by Ilan Shamir, “protector of trees.” Check out his site for more information about him and his work: Your True Nature, Inc.
I am joining Parul Thakur for #ThursdayTreeLove every second and fourth Thursday of the month. If you would like to play along, post a picture of a tree on your blog and link it back to her latest #treelove post.
Beautiful poem….and picture of the tree Chandra.

Wow I loved that poem- thank you so much for sharing it. I am going to quote it for one of my pictures someday. The tree looks to be in a state of restfulness.

Thank you for publishing this poem. It is one of my favorites. I think trees have such meaning beyond our little lives. If we only can stand still and listen.

Great advice from a wise tree. The tree in the photo looks so wise and strong as it looks down upon us.

I miss that tree, but I’m glad I was able to see my parents before all of this madness.
