“My Mother’s Garden.” Photo by Suzette R.
The bud
stands for all things,
even for those things that don’t flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing […]
—Galway Kinnell, from “Saint Francis and the Sow”
About the image: The delicate flower in this #WordlessWednesday post was photographed by my Love Notes friend, Suzette R. The flower is from her late mother’s garden–an intimate glimpse of a beautiful soul.

Kinnell is (as someone I know said about a different poet) one of the real ones. This isn’t a bad morning to have stumbled across that bit of beauty. Thank you.

This is part of a longer poem, but the “bottom half” doesn’t speak to me as much as this part. As far as I’m concerned, the poem could have ended where I end it. LOL.

Excellent! I am specially fond of the line, “… to reteach a thing its loveliness…”
That needs to percolate inside me for a while.
Thank you.

I stopped at the bloom, sat for awhile taking it in. The textures, the soft calm. Zoomed in to see the stamp mark.
Next, I followed the path of those soothing words. Flowers again from within… self-blessing.
Power in that. 🙂
Thank you for sharing these with us, Chandra. Suzette is always a delight for the soul. As are you, my friend 🙂
