I am a NOLA (New Orleans, LouisianA) woman living in Alabama (with my family). I am a wife, a mommy, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin and a friend. I teach composition and literature at a small liberal arts university. As a mini-poster on my office door indicates, “I love my job. It gives me something to do when I’m not having fun.” Of course, I’d rather have fun all day. Wait. I sound like my son. Reading and Writing are my PASSIONS. I’m not sure I’d survive a world without books and paper. I enjoy making (simple–digital and handmade) bookmarks, cards and digital scrapbooks for family and friends. I love photography. I also love water, flowers, nature (in general), parks, bayous, etc. and taking walks. I love, love, love words and music and poetry and teddy bears and Apple (Mac, iPad, iPhone, software–you name it), quotations and sacred texts and letters and postcards and pretty things in general.
I live the “life of the mind” in my “real” life, so I’ll be using this blog as an escape, to “not think too much.” I’ll be sharing with you wonderful things I receive via snail mail (postcards mainly) AND beautiful, interesting, strange, wild things I capture with my camera. I love, love, love studying photographs, stamps, mail art, art journals, doodles, typography, children’s art, art-in-general. Why am I telling you this? Because every now and then, I’ll also point to relevant pages I find around the world wide web. I am using this blog to keep my head in the clouds or in the sand–whichever you prefer. I have opinions, yes. Strong ones, in fact. But I prefer to limit sharing those with people I communicate with “in the flesh.” Also, I love people in general, so please reserve discriminatory or inflammatory speech for forums that welcome such.

Ciao!
I just moderated your comment on my blog. Came to see yours. I read your post about the passing of your beautiful sister. I lost my sister to cancer almost seven years ago. I know and feel your pain.
I searched your blog for tell-tale signs of familiarity and wonder what lead you to my blog. There are none. I’m feeling like you are that dove that fell from the sky and landed in my garden. I’m feeling a bit emotional about it, you know, people cross our path for a reason…..Even if it’s just to remind us of what’s important.
You have my deepest sympathy and prayers for the loss you are experiencing. It’ll get easier with time but it’ll never be the same. God bless you and your family.

I can tell you how I “found” your blog, but I like your explanation better. No really. Here’s the story. You are a “Liberate Your Art” participant and one of your postcard recipients provided a link to your blog. Since I’m a serious photo addict, I had to check out your blog.
I do appreciate your kind words and encouragement regarding my sister. I always feel a little better after talking with people who already have some experience walking this path. Although a link sent me to your blog, there was certainly a larger purpose than a feast for my photo addiction.
Hugs to you!

I want to say a much-belated (yet still relevant) “thank you” for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I’ve written (even more when they respond).
While I write regularly about faith and mental illness, I’m also known to dabble in other subjects, stories, even the occasional poem. If you have any requests, please let me know.
I appreciate what you have going here. I share your interests in faith and literature and look forward to reading more of your blog in the days to come.

You are most welcome. I rarely comment on blog posts, because I’m usually reading on the go, stealing a moment here and there. I do appreciate your blog. It’s so important to discuss faith and mental illness. For so long, people thought mental illness indicated a lack of faith–and I imagine some people still feel this way–so it’s imperative that we speak openly about the experience of faith, mental illness, healing. Thank you for doing so…

Hi Chandra Lynn, I just returned from sailing in the Bahamas to receive your fantastic postcard in the swap. I am a lover of black and white photos so I really appreciate this one! It’s exquisite. I will be doing a blog post soon on sherrygaley.com but since I just got back it may take a bit of time. I wanted you to know that I received your beautiful card and will treasure it. Sherry

Happy we found each other’s blogs, Chandra. I’m a NOLA boy, too, and I recently gave up teaching composition and lit (along with my car, furniture, and everything I owned that did not fit into my backpack) for professional vagabonding (12 countries hitchhiked in past 3 years!). “The life of the mind” is my real life too, and does not at all preclude my life on the roads of the world (and through the roads of my writing — novels, poetry, blog, etc.) Hope to see u online. Hello Chandra,
I just saw that you had liked a post of mine and was curious to see who you are.
Well, I haven’t read any of your blogs yet as I like to start with the About page to see who the person is that was actually interested in what I have to say.
And….man am I glad I did.
I love to write and read, but every time someone asks me why I write a blog I have a hard time explaining what drives me. Well, your words could have said better why!
Thanks so much and as you see, you’ve even inspired me to follow you (and your thoughts 😉 ) and I don’t do that lightly.
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy and am sure our paths will cross again.
Take care, stay safe and Cheers from Nova Scotia
