Karle’s Wings: Sending Love Into the World

Pink Orchid, New Orleans Botanical Gardens

When my younger sister, Karlette, passed away in 2013 after an eight-year battle with breast cancer, five different diagnoses, a double mastectomy, and other radical treatments, the world suffered the loss of an amazing person.  Since her passing, I have been trying to figure out how to honor her life and put some of her light back into the world.

Recently, I volunteered to write postcards to two women who have breast cancer, a small act to brighten their days as they deal with this horrible disease.  After sending the postcards, I realized this was a perfect way to honor my sister who loved sharing beauty with others and did her best to ease the load for her fellow sufferers.

So, Karle’s Wings was born.

Karle’s Wings uses snail mail, words, and beauty to encourage breast cancer sufferers and survivors. The goal is to share beauty, light, and joy–characteristics Karlette embodied.
